As Resident Trainer now at the RVHR, upon
our invitation, Sylvia Scott gives her heart and
time to our rescue horses, many of which are in
great need of learning to trust the human once again,
indeed one of Sylvia's greatest training fortes.
Sylvia also gives openly to each human who has had
the opportunity to watch her at work demonstrating
a new type of knowledge when training a horse: natural
horsemanship. We have all learned watching Sylvia
that horses indeed can be successfully trained gently,
compassionately, with great respect - and with a
tremendous amount of love.
After watching Sylvia take on the challenge
of working with many of RVHR's initally most
difficult-to-handle horses, I am still amazed each
time I witness the instant transformation. These
horses which the equine society has often said, "We
give up on them; we can’t do anything with them,
you are a throw-away horse!" Sylvia proves
them wrong as she puts her special talents to work
for hour’s non-stop with each of the horses on their
individual level of trust and learning level; and
Sylvia initiates the remarkable turn-around every
time. To see a horse stop fighting, or stop
fearing, and instead, for the first time, look towards
Sylvia with hope and trust, and say, "Hey,
she isn’t going to hurt me, maybe I can go and be
with her!" is always so moving for us to witness.
From that point forward, they start on a new journey
into a life filled with love, trust and feeling
safe once again, as they become happy horses who
make wonderful partners to their new adoptive owners.
If you have an opportunity to watch Sylvia
Scott work on join-up with a horse and then watch
her apply her natural horsemanship training techniques,
don’t miss out! It is truly something to behold.
Thank you, Sylvia, for all you do for the
horses in the world today.
