- R. J. (Bob) Sagely - www.sagehorsemanship.com
- I've been hanging around horses long enough to know two things for certain: I now know a lot about horses and I know that there is a whole lot more for me to learn about them. Since the day I was given a horse by a friend of my uncle, I have been a student of horse behavior, human behavior when they are around horses. Growing up in Southern California, the birthplace of Californio style horsemanship, I was fortunate enough to learn about horse and cattle handling from the ancestors of vaqueros who rode for the Rancho Santa Margarita (modern day Mission Viejo) and the Mission de San Juan Capistrano. After a little time in other regions of the country, I came to realize that my initial exposure was preferable to the horse and to me. So I now focus on refining what I do that falls within the ways and philosophy of the Old Californio style of horsemanship, the predecessor and source for natural horsemanship principles. I try to offer the horse the most precious and critical of thing I can. That thing is simply time - time to understand; time to learn; time to be alright with his life. Beyond that it does get a little more complex. This does not however involve the use of fear or force. I try to keep the natural curiosity and spirit of the horse intact as I help him change into a partner and sound mount. Sage Horsemanship offers horsemanship and Old Californio vaquero style roping clinics country-wide and one on one, at home help for those who live nearby. Give me a call if I can be of help to you.

- Michelle Eccles - www.papony.com
- Michelle Eccles graduated
in 2002 from the John Lyons’ training program
and is a John Lyons Certified Trainer. Michelle
is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania; she
has trained hundreds of horses, dealt with lots
of different breeds and has helped many people
through various training programs. Any horse
can be trained regardless of age, gender, past
experiences or breed type. It's knowing how
to ask for specific responses and knowing how
to tell your horse "YES!" If you interact
with horses in any way- you are a trainer. Keeping
an open mind and keeping yourself safe is so
important. Having a calm horse at the end of
the lesson is having a horse that positively
learned what you were teaching. Michelle also
believes that teaching kids to teach horses
is very important. Emphasis on kids learning
how to train horses is one of Michelle’s passions.
Kids and horses just naturally belong together.

- Charlie Bush - www.charliebush.com
- When a human learns how
to present himself to the horse in a way that
the horse understands, the human is often astounded
at how quickly the horse responds and how very
willing the horse is to do exactly what he believes
he is being asked to do. If a human aspires
to become a horseman, then he must learn the
fundamentals of what comes natural to the horse
and it must be learned from the ground up. In
time, it can become as natural to the human
as it already is to the horse, and we can achieve
something extraordinary - trust, understanding,
and partnership. "My goal and my desire
is that everyone who rides in one of my two-day
clinics will come away with a working knowledge
of the fundamental principles of natural horsemanship."
