LETTER OF THE MONTH: May 2009 Hi Sylvia. I want to thank you for producing your training videos (Round Pen Leadership and Whispering Way™ 12-Step Total Training System). I have watched them over and over and always learn something new. My horse and I have been working together since June of 2008 and we have just moved into trail riding after lots and lots of ground work. She is just terrific - brave and powerful and very responsive...Thanks so much. M. W. - Hampton, Virginia
LETTER OF THE MONTH: May 2009 Sylvia: I was very touched by the numerous comments made by your happy clients, and I hope to join them in the not too distant future...Thank you for giving me focus and encouragement!! I am the proud new owner of a young (about to turn 5) Paso Fino mare, whom I bought last October and shipped to Spain for training by a respected natural horseman. Someone else worked on her groundwork, as she was not respecting people's space, etc., and he worked on her under saddle mainly. He now felt she was ready to come back to me. She is not the easiest, but I guess is in fact a normal, young, spirited stubborn young mare. I now have her with me in England, she has traveled a lot in the last 6 months, does not know me nor her new surroundings, and is stiff after a long journey. Where do I begin? She is my first horse, and whilst I am a good rider with nice soft hands, I am inexperienced in doing all the groundwork, bonding etc. But this is what I have always wanted and dreamt of, and want to help her and myself get it right. However, she does not respect me yet (understandably), barges into me, rushes ahead of me when leading her, and I tried to lunge her a bit in the school today to get her moving, which was a near disaster. I am nearly in tears writing this as I am wondering "what have I done!!" I have just ordered your Round Pen Leadership DVD and Whispering Way™ 12-Step Total Training System DVD set, plus the training wand. I already have the rope halter and 12 foot lead rope. I must say you have given me so much more hope this evening reading your web site tips on relaxing, building trust and bonding, that tomorrow and next week I will just concentrate on this until your DVDs arrive. I would hope to be able to stay in touch by email, to hopefully be able to ask what may seem stupid questions, but when faced with an unknown situation, I would rather have the courage to ask someone like you than face an unsafe situation as I nearly did today. She is a lovely horse, everyone loves her, she has a good nature and is willing. I just need to bond and build up trust with her. So thank you for your website - it is wonderful!!! Kind regards, K. LETTER OF THE MONTH: May 2009 Hi Sylvia, I purchased your Round Pen Leadership and Whispering Way™ 12-Step Total Training System DVDs and I read your web site frequently, too -- I have learned so much from your site. Currently, I have a 4-year-old Arabian mare who is a little on the timid side. I think she might have had some abuse when handling in order to get things done quickly. I have followed your program with success and we have overcome many obstacles. My Arabian trusts and respects me on the ground, and she is going very well under saddle... I cannot tell you how thankful I am for your program. I have only owned horses for 4 years (a childhood dream), and I didn't feel that I had the ability to start a horse from the ground up on my own. I knew she was the wrong horse for me when I purchased her, but there was something in her eyes, and I figured because she was so cheap, I could afford the training she required. I sent my Arabian to a couple natural horse trainers and was told by both of them that she was too spooky to train and would never be very reliable under saddle. Using the techniques that your program teaches, I have seen dramatic changes in her since I brought her home and decided to undertake her training myself. We have been on 10 trails rides together to date and she has been nothing but reliable under saddle. In fact, most people assume she is a seasoned trail horse, and I have to remind them she is still green. On occasion, she has led because another riders' "seasoned" horse would refuse to go through the mud. I am developing a wonderful bond with my horse and she truly is becoming the horse of my dreams. Again thank you for your program as it has enabled a green trainer to keep her green horse despite the experts' advice! :) H. N. - Longview, Washington
LETTER OF THE MONTH: May 2009 Hi Sylvia. We wanted to update you on our horse [that you worked with us on, who used to be terrified of shots]; we had the vet from VA Tech come out this month and he was able to give our horse his shots without tranquilizing him [as in the past]. The vet was very patient with him, walked him around, talked to him, didn't try to rush it. We still do the needle desensitizing training with him [that you taught us] a lot, but he is such a different horse now, very calm and trusting and hardly ever snorts anymore. We just wanted you to know that your training helped him be a very happy horse!!! Thanks, R. and F. C. - Indian Valley, Virginia
