LETTER OF THE MONTH:

March 2006

Hey Sylvia, I have come such a long way since I first emailed you about that mare "suddenly stopping" that I was leasing in Hawaii. You were so right when you said the difficult horses teach you the most. I just bought her last week and she is amazing. I never would have guessed how much natural horsemanship could change a horse for the better. I came to you thinking I had one problem to fix with this horse, but learned I had a whole lot that needed fixing too! I am now a committed NH horsewoman and humongous advocator of your techniques.

She had a history of bucking off every roper who tried to use her. She was spooky and untrusting and labeled "worthless" - she was to be used as a brood mare only. She offered no affection whatsoever and she seemed to always have a scared look in her eyes. I remember asking you if this horse could ever be ridden bareback. We ride bareback everywhere together now! In a natural horsemanship halter/lead tied into reins to boot! She is loving, trusting, and affectionate! I became so attatched that I had to have her! Since she was worthless to them, I got her for cheap too and she is the best horse I have ever had!

Since being introduced to NH through your web site, your recommended materials and the invaluable email correspondence, I have learned enough to begin helping other horses and their humans. When I felt discouraged and judged at the ranch for doing these "untraditional methods" you said, "Just shut them all out and let the results speak for themselves." I did just that. Of course there are some who are too proud to admit that I was able to reach this horse when they could not, but for others it has sparked a lot of curiosity. I always give credit where credit is due. "I would not have accomplished any of this had it not been for Sylvia Scott's help and guidance." I tell them all about your website and what a great resource it is.

I have also started a 4-H Club called Paniola O Ko'olauloa, meaning "Horseback riders of the Ko'olau mountain range" in Hawaiian. All the youth are learning NH now and re-connecting with their horses using the NH methods.

You also warned me that helping a difficult horse like mine and succeeding is how it all starts. Now people are coming to me for help. I am confident I can help because you helped "fix my foundation holes"!  And I know I can count on you, my mentor, for help if I get stuck. I have learned so much and it has made me a much better horsewoman. Thank you!

Hi Sylvia. I have just spent the whole morning reading just some of your web site. It is so nice to see a highly learned and talented natural horse person willingly sharing their knowledge, and in such easy to understand terminology. So many of the NH websites offer you a snippet of 'how to' which can be a lot more dangerous to those wanting to have a go and many sites are not brave enough to say it how it is as you have.

I too practise NH in the UK. An amalgamation of several techniques that I have studied (some famous, some not so famous) and also some hard learned lessons with my own horses and a large dose of understanding and patience. If you are ever interested in a trip to the UK and a clinic and/or demonstration, I'd be thrilled to help you facilitate it.

Congratulations on a fabulous, informative and friendly web site.

LETTER OF THE MONTH:

March 2006

Hi Sylvia. Thank you, thank you, thank you for explaining natural horse training methods in your question and answer section of your web site. I have tried to comprehend the method, but it was not clear until I found your web site. I previously had tried the [another leading natural horsemanship trainer program], and went to one of their clinics, got their book, a video, saw him perform at my state fair a few times, saw him on a horse network training program. It was like going to a stage performance. You got to see the end result but not how to get there. Natural horse training remained a mystery. But then I found your web site, and you explained things from a-z, how horses think, the herd mentality, how to correctly train them through natural horse training methods, the pressure and release, etc. I can't tell you how much you have helped me and our horses. My horse of 23 years recently passed away, a beautiful gentle soul and now I find myself with a four-year-old mustang who is afraid of people and an obnoxious coming two-year-old colt whom you can't get away from you. So I am taking in every word that you write; you have made it so easy to understand. Thank you for sharing your horse wisdom. You will help a lot of horses and their people. I have been passing along your web site to horse people that I know. I would attend one of your classes if they were in my part of the country.

Sylvia, your web site is one-of-a-kind! Thank you for your generosity in sharing so much knowledge with us - I have never found this (for free) anywhere else on the internet. Please come to Australia!!! Cheers.

LETTER OF THE MONTH:

March 2006

Hi Syl. I did exactly as you suggested there with my boy this weekend and it worked like a charm!!!!! I was so happy and so grateful to you for the excellent advice. He didn't like it and started moving forward before I had to wait to make him turn in an actual full circle. I'll be back out this weekend to work with him more. It certainly makes riding so much more fun. I can't thank you enough. Would love to meet you one day! Thanks for all very much! And for the encouragement. You've made both of us so much happier.

Sylvia: Wrote to you last week regarding two mustangs that we picked up from the BLM in Wyoming. Thanks for your training advice; it worked perfectly, the horse is progressing well now.

LETTER OF THE MONTH:

March 2006

Hi Sylvia. Thanks so much for all of your help with our horses at your place today. I know you say it's not you, it's natural horsemanship, but you really have a talent with horses. My husband's horse did so much better today with the farrier, unsedated with your help, than he did last time sedated! I know with your help he'll get over his past abuse and not being able to trust. We love him dearly but we couldn't have done this without you. I'm also looking forward to you working with my horse more, too! Again, thanks,

F. C. - Indian Valley, Virginia
