LETTER OF THE MONTH: June 2005 Syl: It works, it works, it works!! My horse is now picking up his feet, whenever I want them. Before you showed me how to fix this problem, my 6-year-old gelding would not allow me to pick up his hoofs for cleaning. He would pick up the front, but shifted his weight to the lifted hoof and would go down on it. He also stiffened his leg and placed all of his weight on any rear leg that you tried to pick up. If you did happen to get a rear leg up, he would step forward on that hoof, then eventually move sideways into you. He had to be drugged by the farrier to get shod in the past…and it still took in excess of two hours to do the job because he was fighting!!!! But the method you taught me to fix this problem worked! I do still have to sometimes push his weight off of the left rear, but he will still pick it up for me now. Any day that I am with my horse, I will pick his feet up at least 3 times. Now the true test will be his next farrier visit which is coming up shortly. Thanks for everything!
LETTER OF THE MONTH: June 2005 Sylvia, thanks so much for getting back to me. I love reading your articles; they are the most straightforward and logical explanations of some things I have read so far. I've tried a couple things, like the tongue feathering, and they have worked wonderfully. So of course I am looking forward to receiving your book. I have three 2 year olds (one of which is a really stubborn little Shetland gelding) and an old timer 6 year old so can use the help!
LETTER OF THE MONTH: June 2005 Hi Sylvia, I just finished your book and it came two days ago. It was awesome! Lots of things that were shady or just plain in the dark I now understood completely. It's amazing what communication will achieve with horses, humans, and other animals. Whenever I am near a horse now I watch their reactions to my touch whereas before I only watched for a change in mood. I absolutely loved all of the different facts on where horses love to be scratched or rubbed and the bit on how a tense horse has a clamped tail. I can't wait to try some of the techniques in the book. THANKS!!! K. B. Portsmouth, New Hampshire
LETTER OF THE MONTH: June 2005 Hello Sylvia. I want to thank you again for spending so much time with me on the phone yesterday. In just the 30-40 minutes that we spoke you gave me insight into my horse that was encouraging and quite eye opening to me. And the leads you gave me for horse trainers out here in Colorado were fantastic. I hope our paths cross one of these years! With much gratitude,
LETTER OF THE MONTH: June 2005 Sylvia, Wow. Wow! Thank you so much for the obvious time, thought, and actual care you put into replying to my email. This was so much more than I expected! What a gift, thank you. First of all, I've spent most of my horse related time around men who could barely voice their own subtle fears and issues, let alone try to discern and understand a horse, and they certainly didn't have any room or permission for my intuition, instincts, or thoughts on different ways to do things. Thankfully I'm a bit of a fireball and didn't get completely invalidated, but it has taken me a long time to be comfortable doing it the NH way even when everyone else thinks I'm weird (although it's happening less and less as people become educated). So thank you mostly for being the opposite, for giving me useful tools and not just dismissing me as an idiot for having a young horse! A. S. Edwards, Colorado
LETTER OF THE MONTH: June 2005 Dear Sylvia, I emailed you back in February and you gave me some great advice about my horse. You mentioned that I needed to get a companion for my horse and not stall it at night. The advice worked great! We have gotten two more horses and are thinking about getting one more. Thanks! J.
