LETTER OF THE MONTH: February 2011 The best training program ever! Hi Sylvia, I recently got back into horses after a 30 year absence. I was raised with horses and participated in 4H as a kid. My sister has stayed connected with horses her entire life and, until recently, I would ride her horses. So, I just got a horse about 3 months ago. She is a quarter horse mare who was left in a pasture for 2 years in a herd, and she was the lead mare of the herd. She was very spooky and not very trusting. I was a nervous new horse owner who thought I knew enough to enjoy trail riding etc. It became very clear that I needed help. I started doing research on natural horsemanship on the Internet. I found your website Q&A section and was fascinated by your approach. I ordered your Complete Training Package and started working with my mare. Within the first training session I tried the bonding techniques and having her learn to lower her head to relax when she became tense. WOW what an immediate difference! She started relaxing around me, and being around her has become really fun. Second, trailer loading was a bit dangerous and took forever. My mare would pull back, rear, or be so difficult I started to think I had made a mistake in getting a horse at all. After learning to drive her with your groundwork training, and working on my leadership skills, she doesn't balk at the trailer any more. I went riding with my sister and when she saw the transformation of my mare and my increased confidence she was very impressed. Thank you for improving my relationship with my horse. I look forward to every training session. M. M. - Seattle, Washington
LETTER OF THE MONTH: February 2011 I have read many of your helpful tips that you have posted. I am very excited to get your [Round Pen Leadership] video [I just ordered]. I plan to purchase your Whispering Way™ 12-Step Total Training System videos next! Thanks! C. K. - Archer, Florida
LETTER OF THE MONTH: February 2011 Sylvia, I just wanted to say what a wonderful site you have created. Thank you for taking the time to add such a "hub" [Find a Natural Horsemanship Trainer Nearest You] to your website. V. G.-N. - Harmony, Pennsylvania
LETTER OF THE MONTH: February 2011 Thank you very much for a fabulous Whispering Way™ 12-Step Total Training System DVD set; I am enjoying it very much and I go through the exercises with my mare...I love your DVD set - it has brought me back to perfect ground exercises...I have recommended it to my friends, they are definitely checking you out on the web and looking into buying other sets so we can share a library. Thanks for making the body language very obvious to the viewer, it is easy to see exactly how you do it and the animal response...Thank you very much! And please continue your good works with horses and people like myself, where we don't know where to go sometimes. M. D. - Tottenham, Ontario, Canada
LETTER OF THE MONTH: February 2011 Hi Sylvia, I'm very pleased with the results of your Whispering Way™ 12-Step Total Training System program. I realize that my horse knows/does many of the steps, but the structured nature of the program and the way one step builds on the other has really made a difference. I had been using a different back-up cue, but I persevered to teach him the rope "jiggling" you teach, because it allows me to back him up from more of a distance...I'm recommending your program to everyone I know!...I think we had a really good session yesterday in the round pen. After watching your Round Pen Leadership DVD, I realized where I probably went wrong before and why my horse got so wigged out. I think I'd kept the pressure on even though he had signaled that he was ready to accept my leadership and come in. Yesterday, I got his ear pretty consistently and he was chewing. I think I could have gotten his head down, but lessons started in the arena and the kids and the noise started to distract him so I got the inside turn and brought him in. I had a great moment with him later that day. After I feed all the horses, I always let my horse come out and hang with me and eat hay off the cart. He loves it, but at some point he starts to wander off to see what else might be going on and I have to bring him back. Last night, I was dealing with another horse so he took his chance. I called him and when he turned around, I pointed to the cart and he went right back to it! Sorry for the long-winded update, but I'm so excited at our progress. Thanks for being a great teacher! N. H. - Mount Holly, North Carolina
