Starting with an unbroke horse, John teaches effective Round Pen Reasoning. The collection covers: riding the unbroke horse for the first time; exercises for the spooky, high-headed horse; and teaching leads, leg cues, etc., for the more finished horse. Techniques are shown, through live demonstrations, on a totally unbroke horse and with John's stallion, Bright Zip. (6 tapes – 120 minutes each) |

Tape 1: John shows you how to gain a better understanding of the conditioned-response method of training. This tape helps you get that all-important start with your training program. (120 minutes) |

Tape 2: Begins with more round pen work. John discusses the round pen and how to improve position and timing in the round pen. He shows you how to increase the attention span of your horse, how to cure the hard-to-catch horse, dealing with head shyness and ear shyness, longeing, sacking out the unbroke horse, ground tying, and the use of the snaffle bit, plus much more. |
Tape 3: This part of the series takes you through the steps for that all-important first mounting of the unbroke horse. You will learn how to put the bridle on for the first time, deal with a horse that chews on the bit, handle cinchy horses, and get the horse to stand still while being mounted. Find out how you can get your horse to relax and how to handle horses that either won't move or that go too fast. Learn how to recognize problems before they are out of control, how to handle horses that rear and that always-nagging problem of riding stallions around mares. Tape number three will show you how to handle a variety of behavior problems and sets the groundwork for more advanced training. (120 minutes) |
Tape 4: Ever had to deal with a cranky horse? This tape shows you how to deal with this perplexing problem. This tape also shows you how to handle the stallion that drops in public, getting the horse to come when called, leading without resistance, trotting along side on cue, getting movement in confined areas and gaining lightness through the turn. John continues to work with the unbroke horse showing you how to continue on with the horse once it has been saddled for the first time. (120 minutes) |
Tape 5: For more advanced training, this is the tape for you. In this tape, John shows you how to deal with your horse and its natural inclination towards fear. He shows you how to deal with fear-related obstacles on the trail such as animals, motorcycles, etc. You will learn how to get your horse to cross obstacles such as creeks and plastic tarps. This tape will help you perfect your circles, learn about elevation, leaning on the bit, arc, breaking at the poll and leg speed. This tape covers a multitude of information and is a must for those who want more polish on their pleasure horse. (120 minutes) |
Tape 6: Continues with perfecting the circle and improving your overall control and responsiveness with specific cone exercises. Have you been having trouble getting your horse to stop on its hindquarters? This tape will give you the tools you need to accomplish that, as well as rating horse's speed off of the rider's seat, perfecting the jog trot, how to build a great stop, balanced turns, moving on the diagonal, cue spots for sidepassing, leads (simple and flying changes), and backing. Learn how to control your horse's speed without the use of a bit. John also covers exercises that are great for instructors who have students with confidence problems. And, just for fun, John shows you how to train your horse to lie down and sit up on command. (100 minutes) |
