A crippled boy saves an abused circus pony and
it rewards him by birthing a unicorn foal that

Phar Lap (1984)
A true story of the Australian wonder horse of
racing. The horse is extremely skittish, though,
and loses its first four races. Finally
Tommy Woodcock (Tom Burlinson), a stable boy,
establishes a bond with the horse through kindness,

Lap today is remembered in Australia in the
same way as Man O' War in the US or Red Rum
in Britain – as the greatest horse of its day
and a symbol of national pride.

Pride
of the Bluegrass (1939)
Young Midge (Edith Fellows) persuades her father,
Colonel Griner (Granville Bates), to enter their
colt in the Kentucky Derby. It loses the race
and jockey Danny Lowman (James McCallion) is
suspended. The mystery is cleared up when it
is discovered the racehorse is blind, but notwithstanding
this handicap, the dogged Griners and the spirited
steed team up to win the Grand National and
reinstate Danny.

The
Pride of Maryland (1951)
Frankie (Stanley Clements), a young jockey with a new
style of riding that brings him acclaim, is
barred from the track when he starts betting
on himself. Since he's been donating his winnings
to an old flame and her father to help them
raise a colt, the forced retirement is quite
a blow. By the finale, however, his winnings
add up to more than just the big race.
