Chesapeake, Virginia One-On-One Clinic

MORE OF CLINIC DAY ONE

CONTINUED

As the QH begins to let down, his body language and demeanor softens. His head lowers and Sylvia's body language goes softer, less pressure is applied to show him he's getting things right now. All horses learn from the release of pressure what it is you want, not the pressure itself, so pressure is removed incrementally as the horse gets "right answers."

The horse's head lowers in more follower submission and he is beginning to work his mouth

The horse is now making smaller circles around Sylvia to experiment inside
himself to find if closer to Sylvia is the least pressure spot. At those smaller
circle sweeps, Sylvia turns a shoulder to him and removes all eye-to-eye
contact to show him, closer to Sylvia is indeed the quiet, get along spot!

Sylvia slows down her body language, moving in very slow motion and the horse immediately mirrors her, slows down, stops and turns to face her. Sylvia instantly removes all pressure off of the horse, standing quietly, shoulder to him, to show him the "right answer" via the release and gives him several minutes to relax and think. Via thinking, he learns.

It's important to give the horse quiet time to think when he's getting things right.

Stand quietly, face Sylvia, is rewarded with release of all pressure.

The horse drops his head, a sign of follower submission, asking for the invite to come in.

Using prey animal body language, Sylvia asks for the horse to
disengage the hindquarters and pivot, but keep facing her

The horse voluntarily joins up with Sylvia and with no eye-to-eye contact,
Sylvia begins stroking and bonding to begin a loving, nurturing relationship

Via "search touching" Sylvia bonds more deeply with the horse to comfort
him and to reassure him that he made the right decision to join
with her. He is now ready for haltering and the beginning of laying
down his ground foundation to become a happier, cooperative horse!

The horse is now on a normal horse learning curve and Sylvia plugs him into her training foundation program to get him moving forward positively in his training. She ends that day's lesson on a high positive with him in a very good spot, him feeling far more confident and connecting well with the human for the first time in his life. Time to move to the next horse lined up in the clinic workshop and let him digest his successes of the day.
